As a club focused on developing life-ready leaders, FIERCE is proud to support dual-sport athletes that shine on and off the field. Below is a spotlight on four dual-sport FIERCE athletes: Isa S (G07/08 Elite | tennis), Genesis G (G11 Elite | volleyball), Jade C (Academy Navy A | lacrosse), and Kasyn G (G11 | basketball).
1. What drew you to the sport?

I was drawn to tennis because it's such an intensive and exciting sport. I love the feeling of being on the court, competing, and always trying to improve.

The things that drew me to volleyball are the environment and the fun of playing the sport. I loved how everyone was so supportive of each other even if you didn't know what you were doing. I also really love the coach. She was so nice and supportive throughout the whole season.

I got interested in lacrosse when I saw my older cousins playing it. I started lacrosse in Connecticut with a boys program and moved to a girls program when I turned four. I also liked the cool goggles!

Basketball is a physical sport and that drew me to it. I also wanted the opportunity to get comfortable using my hands instead of my feet.
2. In what way has your other sport helped you as a soccer player?

Tennis has helped me a lot with my footwork, coordination, and how to stay calm under pressure and how to recover quickly.

Volleyball has helped me as a soccer player because it has improved my reaction time. Volleyball has a lot of movement across the court, and the ball could get hit wrong so you always have to be ready for the unexpected. My confidence has also improved because if you make a mistake you have to not let that get in your head and just keep playing.

Lacrosse helps me develop and maintain foot speed and agility for soccer. I also play more aggressive in soccer because we are constantly boxing out in lacrosse to gain an advantage for possession of the ball.

Basketball has helped with my stamina and endurance. It’s also given me a chance to develop my leadership skills.
3. What is your favorite memory from your other sport?

Well, my main sport is tennis, and after a year of playing tennis, I also started playing soccer. One of my favorite memories was when I was 6 years old and went to my first state competition, where I got first place. It was an amazing moment because it was my first tennis tournament, and I really enjoyed it.

My favorite memory from playing volleyball is when we got to travel to Elgin. The environment there was so fun because we got to cheer for each other and the crowd would engage to our cheers. We were on the third set of the game, and then we got the game point and we won. At the end of the game all of our teammates ran onto the court and we started cheering because it was our first win.

I played on the Liberty Hill girls team that ended the Spring 2025 season at the top of our division. I also made the Texas GRIT 10U girls travel team this year at 7 years old. I will be playing in tournaments in California, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

My favorite basketball memory is sinking my first 3 pointer in a game against our biggest rival. Even though we didn’t win, I was still so excited!
4. Are there any other insights you would like to share about being a dual-sport athlete?

Being a dual-sport athlete has helped me learn how to manage my time and stay focused. Tennis helps me stay calm and think strategically, while soccer has taught me teamwork and communication. Sometimes it can be really exhausting, but I feel lucky to have the opportunity to play both sports, and I truly enjoy them both.

Being a dual-sport athlete makes you a more well rounded athlete because you get stronger physically and mentally. You have to balance your practices, games and school work all at the same time which makes you mentally stronger. Being in different sports can give you skills that may be helpful in soccer, and all the workouts make you stronger.

I recommend joining sports programs that have the same values. I love that the Fierce soccer and GRIT lacrosse programs are focused on player development. GRIT stands for Growth, Respect, Integrity, and Team. That is in line with what Fierce values. I also love how I am able to make a lot of friends playing different sports!

Basketball comes with mental and physical challenges for me. Learning a new sport hasn’t been easy but in the end, it has helped me grow as a teammate and person.
